Google search gets more tablet-friendly look

15 min.

Google is bringing a "simpler, cleaner design" for search?to the desktop PC, with the change heavily influenced by what it has already done on tablets, and more recently mobile phones. It's a more?horizontal look:

The effort is aimed at bringing a "consistent?search experience across the wide variety of devices and screen sizes people use today," wrote?Jon Wiley, Google Search lead designer, on the company's Inside Search blog.

The new look brings "more breathing room" and "more focus on the answers you?re looking for, whether from Web results or from a feature like the Knowledge Graph."

Advanced search tools are moved from the side of the page to the top, where you click on "search tools" to find choices like "sites with images," "related searches" and "dictionary."

Google users in the U.S. will see the update first, and will migrate to users in other countries "as soon as we can," Wiley wrote.
