Scientists marvel over Serbian mammoth mine

Marko Djurica / Reuters

People look at the skeleton of a mammoth at an open-pit coal mine in Kostolac 62 miles southeast of Belgrade on June 27.

By Alan Boyle

What started out as a coal mine near the Serbian town of Kostolac, southeast of Belgrade, has turned into a gold mine for mammoth bones. Archaeologists say they've found the remains of at least five of the ancient beasts, scattered across 20 acres of sandy terrain.

"There are millions of mammoth fragments in the world, but they are rarely so accessible for exploration," Miomir Korac of Serbia's Archaeological Institute told The Associated Press. "A mammoth field can offer incredible information and shed light on what life looked like in these areas during the ice age."

Experts have been finding mammoth remains at the open-pit mining site for years. In 2009, a well-preserved, 16-foot-long mammoth skeleton?was discovered about 89 feet (27 meters) beneath the surface. That specimen, nicknamed Vika, was a furless southern mammoth that lived about a million years ago. Another mammoth skeleton, thought to be 500,000 years old and nicknamed Kika, was found at a factory site in northern Serbia in 1996 and is now on display at a museum in Kikinda. ?

The more recently discovered bones, excavated last month at a depth of about 66 feet (20 meters), appear to be from woolly mammoths that lived tens of thousands of years ago.

"This discovery is interesting because, unusually, there are many bones in one place," Sanja Alaburic, an expert from Serbia's Museum of Natural History, told AP. He speculated that the bones were carried to the site by flooding.

Korac said that colleagues in France and Germany have been contacted for consultation. Unearthing all the bones will require at least six months of work, he said.

Microsoft buying Internet startup Yammer? | Advanced E ...

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) ? Microsoft is buying Internet startup Yammer for $1.2 billion in an attempt to bring Facebook-like sharing features to its widely used suite of business software applications.

Yammer specializes in creating private social networks so employees within the same company can keep tabs on what colleagues are working on. That?s similar to how Facebook?s online social network allows friends and families to track what?s happening in each other?s personal lives.

The deal, announced Monday, comes nearly two weeks after word of Microsoft?s negotiations with Yammer first leaked out in published reports.

The acquisition represents Microsoft?s latest attempt to adapt to a major shift in the technology industry, one that is fueling demand for more Internet-connected services and social-networking tools.

The upheaval is threatening to marginalize Microsoft Corp., the world?s largest software maker, and ultimately diminish the amount of money coming in from sales of its Windows operating system and a wide range of applications designed primarily for personal computers.

As part of its effort to remain relevant, Microsoft paid $8.5 billion last year for Internet video chat service Skype in the largest acquisition in its history.

In another bold move, Microsoft last week unveiled its own tablet computer, Surface, to compete with Apple Inc.?s iPad. Microsoft has designed Surface to run on the upcoming Windows 8, the biggest change to the company?s operating system in nearly two decades.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer is counting on Yammer?s sharing tools to ensure that long-established Microsoft applications, including its word processing and spreadsheet programs, remain vital components for getting work done. Google Inc. has emerged as a threat with a toolbox of similar programs that run primarily over the Internet rather than on individual machines.

?Think of Yammer as a fundamental part of our Office family,? Ballmer said on a Monday conference call.

Microsoft will have much of the same autonomy given to Skype since that deal closed eight months ago. Yammer will continue to be run from its San Francisco headquarters by its co-founder and CEO, David Sacks. It will also continue to provide its services separately from Microsoft?s offerings.

Microsoft did not give a time frame for when the deal should close.

Gartner Inc. analyst Larry Cannell said Microsoft?s latest acquisition was smart and reflected ?a recognition that the social capabilities in Microsoft?s products have been deficient.?

Investors couldn?t muster much enthusiasm for the deal on another somber day for the stock market. Microsoft?s stock fell 82 cents, or nearly 3 percent, to close at $29.88.

Although other companies such as Jive Software Inc. and Salesforce.com Inc. are building social networks for businesses, Yammer shares the most DNA with Facebook Inc.

When it started in 2008, Yammer raised its initial funding from Peter Thiel ? Facebook?s first major investor. Thiel formerly worked with Sacks while they were both executives at PayPal, an online payment service that eBay Inc. bought for $1.5 billion in 2002.

Sean Parker, the former Facebook president depicted by Justin Timberlake in the 2010 movie ?The Social Network,? also sits on Yammer?s board of directors. Parker still owns a 4.6 percent stake in Facebook currently worth about $2.2 billion.

Microsoft has its own financial ties to Facebook, having invested $240 million in the social network in 2007. After selling $250 million in stock in Facebook?s initial public offering last month, Microsoft still retains a 1.7 percent stake worth about $840 million.

Yammer has relied largely on word of mouth to attract more than 5 million registered users at more than 200,000 companies worldwide.

The service depends on employees to use its free tools to set up a private network within their company. Once the network is getting wide usage, Yammer then tries to sell more sophisticated features to the companies.

As a privately held company, Yammer hasn?t disclosed its revenue. In a Monday note about the Microsoft deal, Nomura Securites analyst Rick Sherlund estimated Yammer?s revenue at $15 million to $20 million last year.

The company has been expanding so rapidly that it had been considered a prime candidate to pursue an IPO by next year.

The stock of Yammer rival Jive Software has gained 65 percent since it went public six months ago, though it fell 74 cents Monday to close at $19.75.

The IPO market has gone into a deep freeze since Facebook flopped in its closely watching stock market debut last month. Instead of soaring as had been widely anticipated, Facebook shares plummeted during the first few weeks of trading. Although the stock has rallied recently, it remains 16 percent below the IPO price of $38, which had minted Facebook Inc. with a market value of $104 billion. Facebook shares dropped 99 cents, or 3 percent, Monday to close at $32.06.

Sacks said the frosty conditions in the IPO market didn?t influence Yammer?s decision to sell to Microsoft. The negotiations between the two companies began before Facebook?s IPO, according to Saks and Ballmer.

?Our thinking was based on the fit with Microsoft and the fact that we think Microsoft is a great partner for us in expanding the service and taking it to the next level,? Sacks said.

The sale will provide a hefty return for Yammer?s early backers. The startup has raised about $142 million in venture capital.

Going for Broke: 5 Experiments That Went Out in a Blaze of Glory

Features | Space

Scientists have used the last moments of major experiments or spacecraft to make a push for knowledge--or to produce some fireworks

Magellan orbiter Image: NASA

Burning up, blowing up or crash-landing is usually considered a bad thing for a space mission. But some of the most successful missions have ended when scientists deliberately steered them to their demise. For some spacecraft, such destruction was always part of the plan. Others had simply achieved their goals, budget outlays had run their course, the time had come to wind them down, and researchers realized that they had nothing left to lose by sending the probes on one last daredevil plunge.

View a slide show of five experiments pushed to the limits?and beyond.

Gaming Consoles are Dead? ? Lefty on the Left

Yeah, this question was posed in a video that was recently uploaded to YouTube.? The video talked about how mobile gaming is quickly replacing typical gaming.? In a very quick response to him ? what are you talking about?

The consoles that we know of right now are starting to show their age a little, but the fact is that console gaming completely and utterly dominates the gaming world.? Online games are a global phenomenon.? Most gaming companies try to have some online component to all of their games, because the fact is that the young and adult all over the world now want to link up and play games with their friends.

The guy in the video linked above seemed incredibly naive.? He believes that the young culture is all about being mobile.? To some extent, he is right.? Mobile apps are for everything nowadays.? You can upload to your Facebook page on your mobile phone.? You can control all of your devices together, and in some cases control stuff in your house through the mobile phone, but here?s the thing ? it?s a long time coming for this to be applicable to gaming as well.

The next generation of consoles are looking to make their debut very soon.? It?s cool because gaming companies want to make games that have the hardware to show off their new tech.? This means that better performance, better graphics, and more save space are just around the corner.? All kinds of possibilities are going to be available for gaming very soon.

To say that the consoles are dead seems incredibly ignorant, and perhaps this fellow should have done his research.? The modern consoles show their age, but the by-product is that there are incredible games being made.? The latest generation of games (the good ones, anyway) have great stories, many on par with good film.? New games are even getting A-list actors into their production.? The game Beyond: Two Souls stars and has a rendering of Ellen Paige.? That is no small feat.

Not only that, but the speaker of the video said that mobile games are the way to go because of the fact that it is mobile.? Mobility doesn?t increase playability.? The maker of an Assassin?s Creed game wouldn?t get very far putting it on an iPhone.? The reality is that these kind of games, while being a very good diversion, are nothing more than standing in the shadow of the gaming consoles.

Saying that traditional consoles are dead is a lot like saying that traditional pets are dead.? It is blatantly not true.? This guy was giving bad advice, and it needs to be made example of, because there were people there at this lecture who thought that they were learning something.

Young people do like being on the go, but those who like games like games that are playable.? There has to be some value to the gaming experience, and while playing Angry Birds or Fruit Ninja can be fun, they in no way are looking to replace the high-quality games that serious gamers are expecting from the consoles or online.? That?s a fact.

I love video games.? This is an art medium that I have grown up with, and I am seeing it mature.? No longer are the plots non-existent or simple.? We now have nuance, subtlety, catharsis, and beauty.? This medium is coming into its own, and when games can get people like Haley Joel Osment and Ellen Paige to be a part of them, you know that you are doing something right.

Sorry, guy, but you are dead wrong.? Remember that.

Mississippi St. // Auburn // 7

Note: Missouri and Texas A&M officially join the SEC next Sunday.

When former University of Georgia football coach Vince Dooley was given the additional role of athletic director in 1979, one of his first objectives was to adjust his late-season schedule.

"The three biggest rivals we've had for a long time are Florida, Auburn and Georgia Tech, and at one time we played them all in a row," Dooley said. "We wanted to split that up, and we were able to do it."

Now the big question concerning Georgia's football schedule is which team annually will provide the early-season challenge.

The Bulldogs have opened Southeastern Conference play the past 20 seasons against South Carolina, but that run is coming to an end. Georgia's SEC opener this year will be at Missouri on Sept. 8.

It's unknown whether the league's new Tigers will remain Georgia's first SEC foe in 2013 and beyond or if South Carolina moves back or even another East Division team takes the spot. League officials are hoping to release more specifics about future scheduling later this summer.

"I think what you will see is probably a great deal of movement in those games," Bulldogs athletic director Greg McGarity said. "I'm just guessing here, but once our TV partners weigh in, I think providing traditional games that from a television standpoint are attractive would be part of the mix there.

"I think what you may see there is a variation on when you may play certain teams, and that will obviously be determined at a later date once TV has a chance to weigh in and meet with the commissioner to find out what is best for all concerned. I don't think there is going to be anything definite as far as when you play most of your teams."

In the past half century, Georgia has been linked with three annual early-season rivalries: Alabama, Clemson and South Carolina.

Alabama was Georgia's opening opponent from 1959 to '65, shredding the Bulldogs 31-3 in the '64 matchup at Tuscaloosa to spoil Dooley's debut as a head coach. The Bulldogs rebounded the following year to stun the Crimson Tide 18-17 in Athens, but the series was discontinued after the Saturday Evening Post claimed the '62 game, which the Tide won 35-0 in Birmingham, had been fixed by Alabama coach Bear Bryant and Bulldogs athletic director Wally Butts.

Bryant and Butts sued the Post, which in 1967 had to pay $3.06 million in damages.

"Because of the Saturday Evening Post scandal, the powers that be in the remaking of the league schedule decided it wouldn't be good for us to have Alabama as a normal rival," Dooley said. "So what they ended up doing, which wasn't very good, is make Ole Miss a rival or a constant game that we played every year. Alabama and Georgia would have been a natural rivalry.

"Any time you play a team from an adjacent state, it's big."

Clemson is not only from an adjacent state to Georgia but is within 90 minutes of UGA's campus except for autumn Saturdays. The Bulldogs waxed the Atlantic Coast Conference's Tigers throughout the 1960s and early '70s, but the teams split the eight 1974-81 meetings.

Georgia won the '80 matchup and Clemson the '81 encounter, and the victor in each of those seasons went on to win the national championship.

"We played them every year for a long period of time," Dooley said, "and it was a dangerous challenge because Clemson's two biggest rivals were South Carolina and Georgia, and Clemson was not among Georgia's top three or four. We had Auburn, we had Florida and we had Georgia Tech, and we had other teams in the conference. Clemson really got up for us."

Georgia and Clemson played each other through 1987 but have met just six times since, with expansions in both conferences greatly factoring into the infrequency of that series.

The Georgia-South Carolina game has played second fiddle to Florida-Tennessee for most of the past two decades, but the Gamecocks and Bulldogs have combined to win the past two SEC East titles. This year's matchup will take place in Columbia, S.C., on Oct. 6, four weeks after the Bulldogs visit the league's new Columbia (Mo.).

"They had to make a quick decision, and this may have been the best quick decision they could have made," Dooley said. "We were supposed to go to Alabama this season, so it's better to go to Missouri, no doubt about that, but the minus side is that an early game like that on the road could be very tough."

Newsweek Reporter Explains Church's Political Neutrality Stance On MSNBC

21 June 2012 ? POSTED by Sammy Hislop

Speaking with MSNBC?s Thomas Roberts, Newsweek Washington reporter Michelle Cottle explains The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? (Mormon) political neutrality position.

?One of [the Church?s] key messages is that it?s not political and it?s not partisan,? Cottle says, ?so it?s doing a lot of outreach to the public and to journalists in particular trying to get across the message.?

Roberts quotes from the Church?s political neutrality statement, including the portion that says the Church reserves ?the right as an institution to address, in a nonpartisan way, issues that it believes have significant community or moral consequences or that directly affect the interests of the Church.?

?They draw a big distinction between issues,? Cottle says. ?They are happy to back issues and be very clear about where they stand on issues, but they do not translate that into pushing specific candidates or specific party platforms.?

Chinese premier in Argentina on trade mission

AFP - Chinese Premier Wen Jibao arrived in Argentina Saturday on an official visit aimed at boosting trade with one of South America's top agricultural producers.

Wen, slated to meet Sunday with Argentine President Cristina Kirchner, has been traveling across South America since a G-20 summit in Mexico last week, with previous stops in Brazil and Uruguay. He visits Chile after Argentina.

Kirchner and Wen, who met on the sidelines of the G-20 summit, have agreed to increase trade, which last year reached $14.8 billion, $8 billion in China's favor.

China is Argentina's second largest trade partner, mainly dealing in agricultural products. Argentina is the world's number one exporter of flour and soy oil, number three soy bean exporter, and number two corn exporter, said Rogelio Ponton, adviser to the Rosario Board of Trade.

Buenos Aires expects to highlight plans to modernize the Belgrano Cargas railway, said Planning Minister Julio de Vido about Wen's visit in comments aired on state television.

Argentina also hopes to draw Chinese investments in its oil industry, after having expropriating Spanish oil company Repsol's controlling share of YPF, Argentina's largest oil company.

During nearly two hours of talks Friday, Wen signed five cooperation agreements on telecommunications, the environment, and economic and technology cooperation.

President Jose Mujica expressed to Wen Uruguay's hope that Chinese companies would invest in a deep-water port project in the southeast department of Rocha, according to the spokesman, Diego Canepa.

Canepa said Wen had conveyed China's interest in the construction and the development of the port. A Uruguayan delegation will visit China in the next three months to present the project to potential investors, the spokesman said.

Chinese companies are keen to explore the possibility of using Uruguay as a "key platform" for improving ties with Mercosur, the South American trade bloc that includes Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay, Canepa said.

China is Uruguay's second-largest trading partner after Brazil.

Sandusky guilty

BELLEFONTE, Pa. ? Jerry Sandusky was found guilty Friday night on 45 of 48 counts of child sexual molestation and faces up to 442 years in prison.

A jury of Sandusky's Centre County, Pa., neighbors determined that the former Penn State defensive coordinator sexually abused children over a 15-year period, using his stature as a local coaching hero and his position with the Second Mile charity to target and then violate at-risk kids from the area. The jury deliberated for about 20 hours after a trial that stretched across eight days at Centre County Courthouse. The jury foreman read the counts and said "guilty" on six consecutive counts before saying "not guilty" for the first time. He read all 48 counts.

Jerry Sandusky is taken into custody after a jury found him guilty of child molestation. (Getty Images)Sandusky, wearing a brown blazer, stood motionless with his left hand in his pocket, his eyes on the jury. His wife, Dottie, and three of his adopted sons and one adopted daughter sat to his right. Matt Sandusky, their adopted son who Thursday said Jerry Sandusky had molested him, was not present.

Sandusky, who was escorted out of the courthouse in handcuffs, will be sentenced at a later date by Judge John Cleland. The precise number of years he faces in prison is unclear, but legal experts say it should be enough to lock the 68-year-old away for life.

After the counts were read, Judge John Cleland said, "Mr. Sandusky, you have been found guilty by a jury of your peers."

Victim No. 6 ? one of eight victims to testify ? and his family were in court. He put his head down and wept uncontrollably as the verdict was read. "I'm just overwhelmed," he said afterward.

When court was adjourned and word leaked out to a massive crowd on the steps of the courthouse, cheers rang out and were audible inside the courtroom.

"Jerry was prepared to go to jail tonight," defense attorney Joe Amendola said. "He understood that a verdict coming back on the second day [was an indication he would be found guilty]. With the circumstances of the situation and how the case progressed, it was inevitable."

Judge Cleland said Sandusky would be sentenced in about 90 days. Sandusky gave a quick wave to family and was taken to Centre County jail in handcuffs.

Amendola said Sandusky plans to appeal. He also said Sandusky would have testified on his own behalf had Matt Sandusky not indicated to prosecutors that he'd been abused.

"Jerry always planned to take the stand and tell his story," Amendola said. "Although Jerry and the family deny the abuse [of Matt] happened, it would have been explosive. There was no way for Jerry to testify without the prosecution being able to call Matt."

The case rocked this pristine college area when Sandusky was indicted last November. It led to the firing of iconic head football coach Joe Paterno and school president Graham Spanier. Two other university officials, athletic director Tim Curley and vice president Gary Schultz, are facing criminal charges for failure to report a crime and perjury. Paterno died of lung cancer in January at age 85.

"The Board of Trustees and current administration maintain a steadfast commitment to pursuing the truth regarding Mr. Sandusky?s actions," Penn State said in a statement released following the verdict. "While we cannot change what happened, we can and do accept the responsibility to take action on the societal issue of child sexual abuse ? both in our community and beyond."

The state presented an overwhelming case against Sandusky. It was highlighted by powerful personal testimony from eight victims who detailed, often through sobs and gasps of breath, how Sandusky molested them in Penn State locker rooms, Sandusky's basement and hotel rooms.

[Related: Sandusky, Ohio: Proud city fights off an adverse double meaning]

Sandusky often used his access to Penn State facilities and the football program to lure pre-adolescents into situations where they were alone and the kids were vulnerable.

The state also used testimony from former Penn State assistant coach Mike McQueary, who said he walked in on Sandusky and a boy in the locker room showers in 2001, and hearsay testimony from two Penn State janitors who said a third janitor ? now senile ? saw a similar incident in 2000.

[Related: Most of the seven women, five men on the jury had Penn State ties]

The defense acknowledged from the start it faced a considerable challenge and tried to paint Sandusky as an innocent victim of a grand conspiracy of police and financially motivated victims.

"There are lots of people sitting in jails all across this country who are innocent ? lots of people over the years who have been executed for murder and later determined to be innocent," Amendola said to jeers from the crowd gathered around the courthouse. "What this proves to me is, I believe the jury acted genuinely. I believe the jury acted in good faith. ? I don't have any problem with the jury. We had a good jury."

(AP) ? Federal safety regulators are investigating complaints that the power steering can fail on 2011 Ford Explorer SUVs.

Fifteen drivers have complained that the popular Explorer can suddenly lose its power steering assist, making it harder to steer the SUVs.

The problem could affect 83,000 Explorers. No crashes or injuries have been reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which announced the probe on its website Friday.

In some cases, drivers reported that a warning message appeared on the instrument panel before the power steering quit. At times, restarting the SUVs corrected the problem, several drivers reported.

An investigation could lead to a recall. NHTSA said it is looking into how often the problem happens and what's causing it.

Ford is cooperating with NHTSA in the probe. Anyone who has a concern about their vehicle should contact their dealer, company spokeswoman Marcey Zwiebel said.

The Explorer, once a hulking family-hauler that helped launch the truck-based SUV boom in the early 1990s, was redesigned for the 2011 model year. The new version is based on car rather than truck underpinnings and is more efficient and maneuverable than the old one.

The new vehicle started arriving at dealers late in 2010. The company sold more than 135,000 Explorers in 2011.

Ford shares rose 1 cent to $10.28 in afternoon trading Friday. They are down 20 percent from $12.90 in mid-March.

Washington Nationals Send Edwin Jackson To The Mound To Face The Baltimore Orioles.

Edwin Jackson held the Baltimore Orioles to a run on five hits in 8.0 IP when he faced the O's in Nationals Park back on May 18th. The 28-year-old Nats' right-hander received no decision in that game, but he's (5-1) in ten games and eight starts against the AL East franchise in his 10-year MLB career, having allowed 43 hits, 21 runs, 20 earned, three HR's and 19 walks (3.09 BB/9) while recording 48 K's (7.80 K/9) and posting a 3.25 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and .217 BAA in 55.1 IP against the O's. Last time out, E-Jax gave up two runs on seven hits and three walks in 6.0 innings against another AL team, the East-leading Yankees from New York who got a strong start from Ivan Nova (7.0 IP, 1 R, 7 H). "[Jackson] pitched a great ballgame against a tough lineup," Davey Johnson told reporters after that game, "Kept us in the ballgame. Again, offensively we're just coming up a little short." The Nationals look to rebound tonight after the offense came up short in the Nats' 2-1 loss to the Orioles in the first of three in Camden Yards.

E-Jax takes the hill for the Nationals for the fourteenth time this season tonight in Baltimore. The Nats' skipper called Jackson's last outing a "gutty effort" which started with a 24 pitch first in which he gave up a run and ended with a 25-pitch sixth in which he put two runners on with no outs and pitched out of a jam to keep the Nationals close in what was then a 2-1 game in the Yankees' favor. Jackson's allowed three runs or less in each of his last eight starts, posting a 2.63 ERA over that stretch. In three June starts, the Nats' right-hander has put up a 2.57 ERA and a 4.77 FIP with 10 walks and 10 K's in 21.0 IP and in four career starts in Baltimore, Jackson's (2-1) with a 5.16 ERA, seven walks (2.77 BB/9) and 19 K's (7.54 K/9) in 22.2 IP.

? Here's the lineup that will be backing Jackson up as the Nats take on the O's in game two of three at Camden Yards:

Do You Need Personal Liability Insurance Coverage? - Haaretz Daily

Do You Need Personal Liability Insurance CoverageThere?s nothing? I like more than writing my annual checks for all my insurance protection.

Not including my long-term disability policy, my $2.5 million 30 year term policy, standards homeowner?s and auto policies, I pay roughly $5,124 per year for my total business insurance coverage.

But we all know that insurance is a necessary evil.

When you damage someone else?s property, or cause injury to someone else, you are usually held personally liable for the costs.

This means that you have to pay restitution.

In some cases, these costs can exceed your ability to pay. That is not a good situation!

With the help of personal liability insurance, though, it is usually possible to meet these types of obligations.

Personal liability insurance is a completely different ballgame from life insurance.

What is Personal Liability Coverage?

Chances are that you already have some liability coverage. Most homeowners policies and auto policies include a certain amount of personal liability coverage. If someone is injured at your home, or if you ruin someone?s property with your car, the insurance company pays the claims, up to the amount that you are covered for.

Personal liability coverage helps you protect your assets, since the insurance company pays out the claim, and you don?t have to dip into your savings, or into your other assets. However, the personal liability coverage that comes with your more common insurance coverage isn?t always enough.

Consider Umbrella Insurance

personal liability insurance protectionOne way to augment your personal liability coverage is to purchase an umbrella policy. Umbrella insurance protects you in larger amounts than what is usually offered with your other policies, but the premium increase isn?t as bad. You can usually buy a popular umbrella coverage amount for about $150 a year, and an increase of $50 for each additional $1 million. Many consumers find that boosting the deductible on auto or home insurance can offset the cost of umbrella insurance.

If you have factors that increase your chances of damaging property, or injuring others, it can be worth it to get umbrella insurance ? especially if you have a high net worth. Someone who knows you have more assets might be more willing to sue you for $2 million after a slip and fall at your home. Umbrella coverage kicks in after your regular insurance is tapped out.

So, if your homeowners policy has $750,000 in liability coverage, and you have $3 million in umbrella insurance, if you are sued for $2 million, your homeowners policy will tapped first. Once the $750,000 has been paid out, the remaining $1.25 million will be paid from your umbrella policy.

We initially started with a $1m umbrella policy but recently increased that to $2m of total coverage.?? I also have an umbrella policy with by business insurance, too.

Errors and Omissions

When you are self-employed, you have to be aware of some of the liability issues that can come with your job. If a client holds you responsible for a service you provided, or if the promised results were not realized, or if you are considered liable for a service you didn?t?provide, this can become an issue. Financial planners, lawyers, cosmetologists, and others who are in positions to provide advice and some services to clients can benefit from this type of liability insurance.

This is my whopper of a premium, but with my profession; it?s a necessity.?? My total premium is $3,654 per year for E&O coverage.? .

Some additional benefits that my E&O coverage policy covers on top of the $1m of coverage are:

Business travel Accidental Death Benefit: $25,000 Emergency Real Estate Consulting Fee: $25,000 Identity Theft Expense: $25,000 Key Individual Replacement Expense: $25,000 Kidnap Expense: $25,000 Theft of Work Materials: $2,500 Should You Buy Personal Liability Insurance?

Make sure you consider your situation, and your position. If it appears that you could be sued for what you have done, it?s important to make sure that you have the proper liability insurance. That way, you will protect your assets, and avoid financial ruin if you are held liable for someone else?s injury, loss, or property damage.

Hamas agrees to Egypt-brokered ceasefire with Israel

The military wing of Hamas said late on Wednesday it had agreed to an Egyptian-brokered ceasefire with Israel, after three days of bloodshed in and around Gaza.

"In response to the Egyptian efforts to try and stop the aggression on our people, we at Al-Qassam Brigades and all resistance factions declare our commitment to stop this round of confrontation, as long as (Israel) commits to stopping its crimes," said a statement from Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades.

The statement comes after three days of violence in which eight Palestinians were killed while militants have fired scores of rockets at the Jewish state, one of which slammed into a border police outpost, wounding four.

The Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades statement noted they had fired 96 rockets and nine mortars at the Jewish state during the recent wave of violence, in a rare show of force from the group that had been observing a de facto truce on rocket attacks.

"Our confrontation with the enemy in this round was at the minimal level of fire and responses, this is a message that the (Israeli) leaders should understand very well," al-Qassam added in the statement.

As the violence rumbled on, a senior Gaza official had told AFP that Egypt was in contact with Israel and the militant groups in a bid to restore calm.

"The Palestinian factions are ready to return to the calm as long as Israel stops its attacks," he said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Prior to the al-Qassam statement, two Palestinian youths were wounded in an airstrike on a Hamas training site in northern Gaza. A second attack at another Hamas training camp in Nuseirat in the centre of the territory left no casualties.

The Israeli military said its aircraft "targeted two terror sites in the northern Gaza Strip. Direct hits were confirmed."

"The targeting is in response to over 75 rockets that were fired at Israel during the past three days," it said.

An Israeli police spokeswoman told AFP that on Wednesday, 58 rockets and mortars hit southern Israel. She added that eight people were being treated for shock.

In an earlier Israeli airstrike at a farm in the Zeitun neighbourhood, just east of Gaza City, 14-year-old Moamen al-Adam was killed and his father seriously wounded, medics said. Another two people were also wounded.

An Israeli military spokeswoman told AFP that "during the day, rockets were fired at Israel from a populated civilian area in the northern Gaza Strip."

"This afternoon Israeli army aircraft targeted a rocket launching squad in this area," she said.

Earlier on Wednesday, a missile strike on a motorcycle in the southern border city of Rafah killed 21-year-old Ghaleb Ermilat, whom locals said was a militant of the Islamist movement Hamas which rules the territory.

The Israeli military said he was a "global jihad operative" who was behind a deadly ambush along the Israeli-Egyptian border on Monday morning that killed an Israeli civilian and sparked a firefight in which two of the gunmen were killed.

A third is believed to have fled back to Sinai.

The army said that besides Ermilat, another "global jihad terror operative" involved in Monday's ambush was seriously wounded in the raid, naming him as Mohammed Rashdan, a Rafah resident born in 1984.

It said Ermilat and Rashdan were members of Tawhid wal Jihad, a "global jihad terror movement, that is responsible for ongoing terror attacks against Israeli civilians and soldiers."

"Rashdan's terror activities included weapon transfers, supplying explosive devices to terror operatives, firing rockets at Israel, sniper and mortar fire, and smuggling terror operatives to and from Gaza," the army said in a statement.

Ermilat and Rashdan had planned the ambush and were "actively involved in planning another attack," it said.

On Tuesday, a previously unknown Islamist group claimed responsibility for the ambush in a video carried a US-based monitoring service, SITE Intelligence.

Made by the "Mujahedeen Shura Council in the Environs of Jerusalem," the clip showed two gunmen standing in front of Al-Qaeda's black flag saying they were poised to carry out an attack against Israel.

One claimed to be from Egypt, while the other said he was from Saudi Arabia.

Israel's chief of general staff Lieutenant General Benny Gantz warned on Wednesday that the army would respond to the recent surge in militant activity.

"The army is ready, and stands powerful and prepared to continue react and initiate, and provide a response for every threat at any time," he said at the graduation ceremony for officer cadets.
