How To Know If Your Spouse Is Having An On-Line Affair

Credit

Over 50% of relationships now come into being over the internet. Most of those relationships result in happy partnerships, and even marriages! This very positive trend has unfortunately also brought with it a new feature of infidelity: 50% of affairs now begin over the internet too.

No longer does a spouse have to leave the house, go to a bar, or make moves that would indicate manifestly that they are cheating, or considering cheating in the early stages of an on-line fling. Instead all that might be noticed is a slight increase in on-line activity and the general sense that something is starting to go ?wrong? in the relationship. There are a number of easy to spot warning signs that will tell you if your spouse is engaged on ?secret? activities on the internet:

  • Moving the computer to a ?private? area of the house where you can?t see what they are doing
  • Rapidly shutting down documents, windows or messenger programs when you enter the room
  • Spending an increasing amount of time on the internet without a valid explanation
  • Sitting up late at night using the computer without a valid explanation
  • Acquiring a new web-cam, or buying a web-cam for the first time
  • The history on the web browser has been deleted recently (when it never normally is)
  • Messenger software that used to ?login? automatically at start up, no longer does
  • You notice new e-mail addresses, or logins in the internet history
  • When asked why the computer is being used so much, no good reason is given

If you notice any three of these warning signs, it?s time to boot up your web browser and begin to do a bit of research.

  • Check your internet history, look at what sites have been visited, or if any new e-mail accounts have been logged onto. You?d be amazed how often a spouse will leave a dating site, social network site, or new e-mail address sat right there in the history. If you find a dating site, see if he/she?s still logged in, and look for a user name.
  • Check for any new ?friends? that have been added to your spouse?s facebook or other social networking account.
  • Conduct a social network search: Get yourself over to a site like www.spokeo.com and perform a social network search on your spouse?s e-mail address. It?s not perfect, but it will pull up almost all of the social network accounts that are associated with that e-mail address, including any associated user names. Do this for all known e-mail addresses. A lot of social networking sites won?t let these programs access them, so don?t be afraid to make some dating accounts of your own and do a ?search by e-mail address? which is a feature of most sites. You can also do this kind of search on Facebook, and Myspace by just dropping the e-mail into the ?search? window. If you notice new ?secret? profiles you don?t know about? That?s a warning sign. Look into those profiles, check for public information and see who?s talking to your spouse.
  • Google the user names you find (use the advance search feature to search for the specific term i.e. ?username?). Also Google specific e-mail addresses in the same way (e.g. ?[email?protected]?). Do this for all of the known usernames and e-mail addresses you find. Every time you find a new e-mail address linked to a user name, or a new username linked to a known e-mail address, then repeat this step and the step above. TIP: Make sure you correct Google if it starts trying to search for what it thinks you mean, and always make sure it?s searching for the user name, or e-mail you typed in, as you typed it.
  • Using the above methods you?ll tend to find profiles for web forums, dating sites, and other such errata that normally don?t appear on Google searches, and who?s talking to your spouse there! Most of the time, they?ll have posted on their ?wall?.
  • If you find someone suspicious, perform the same research above on them and see if your spouse?s name pops up, or any suspicious messages appear on their wall from him, or her.

9 times out of 10 this will be sufficient to locate almost every personal profile that your spouse might have, including the ones you don?t know about!

Just remember to be thorough, be persistent and follow up on leads that you find. Also remember to check your intelligence! Double check that a user name can be attributed to him or her before you jump to any conclusions.
Also remember that checking your spouse?s e-mails (if you have access to them), or installing a key logger onto his or her computer is normally going to be illegal without his or her permission, so make sure you stay on the right side of the law and use good internet research, most commonly called open source intelligence. Most of the time, it?s all that it takes! Using the above method, you?ll either find out that your partner is talking to someone new, or what they?re really up to on-line!

This newbie says hi...

...And so does my left sock.

So, anyways, hi all of you out there who for some weird reason, are actually reading this. As an introduction, you may call me Storm... or if you want something else, whatever you want. I don't mind. Make sure it sounds cool though. ;) So anyways, I'm... new here. (No duh.) Kinda scary, but it seems like I'll definitely get a lot of practice on writing and stretching my imagination. I'm actually not unfamiliar with "roleplay," but I never entered here before and the "roleplays" I did never got real in-depth with complete and serious plot. :D Not to mention the the fact that my actual online time is rather sporadic between all my schoolwork and playing random games.

But hey, this place seems fun! I hope to find myself on here more often. Oh, and try not to eat me alive. :O I'd be too lazy to run away and then I'd be eaten. Very, very sad...

Rare gene mutations linked to autism - Health & Fitness - The ...

BENEDICT CAREY; The New York Times ? Published April 05, 2012 Modified April 05, 2012

Three teams of scientists working independently to understand the biology of autism have for the first time homed in on several gene mutations that they agree sharply increase the chances that a child will develop the disorder, and have found further evidence that the risk increases with the age of the parents, particularly the father.

The gene mutations are extremely rare and together account for a tiny fraction of autism cases, suggesting that the search for therapies will be a long one, and that what is loosely known as autism may represent a broad category of related but biologically distinct conditions. There are likely hundreds, perhaps thousands, of rare mutations that could disrupt brain development enough to result in social and developmental delays.

But experts said that the overlapping results ? reported in three papers posted online Wednesday in the journal Nature ? give scientists working on the genetics of autism something they have not had: a clear strategy for building a real understanding of the disease?s biological basis.

Biologists have been groping in vain for a reliable, verifiable foothold from which to investigate the underlying genetics of so-called autism spectrum disorders, including Asperger?s syndrome and related social difficulties that are being diagnosed at alarmingly high rates ? on average, in one of 88 children, according to a government estimate released last week.

Previous studies have produced a scattering of gene findings but little consensus or confidence in how to proceed. The new work provides a measure of both, as well as strong backing for earlier studies linking autism to the age of new fathers.

?These studies aren?t so much a breakthrough, because we knew this was coming,? said Jonathan Sebat, a geneticist at the University of California, San Diego.

How to Write a Novel from a Short Story Part I | Ginger Moran ...

It will perhaps be a surprise to some that novelists suffer anxiety?specifically the anxiety of writing a novel.

I can?t speak for all novelists, but there is enough blood out there?along with complaints, agonizing, hand-wringing and bemoaning?to make me think I?m not alone in being anxious about writing a novel. Even though I have written three of them.

I now worry about what I?m going to write next, so I have two of them lined up in my head. But that isn?t where I started. Where I started was in worrying that I would be able to write any at all.

I was in the creative writing program at the University of Houston and had written quite a few short stories by then. I?d been in the creative writing program at the University of Virginia before that and wrote a few other short stories, mostly in classes taught by Ann Beattie and John Casey, both of whom are wonderful, tough teachers. At UH I?d worked with Rosellen Brown and Phillip Lopate and several guest teachers, all of whom were wonderful and tough but no one as scarily tough as Don Barthelme, who was a genius teacher and administrator as well as a genius writer. But I digress.

I once gave EL Doctorow a ride from the airport in Houston. There is another whole story there, one that doesn?t end particularly well though it starts with my adulation of Doctorow and particularly his brilliant Book of Daniel. I will tell that one when I know you better and am feeling better about embarrassing myself.

For now I?ll just talk about his provocative claim on that car ride that he could tell whether one of his students was a novelist or short story writer by his or her sentence structure. I was too star-struck to inquire much further at the time, but I?ve thought about that idea quite a lot since then and believe that he meant that a short story writer writes tight, intense sentences, like Hemingway. Who could also string them together into a novel, but, still, is beyond brilliant as a short story writer.

My sentences are beyond Faulknerian. Beyond Byzantine. I can give Virgina Woolf a run for her money. I love a great, long, piled up sentence and I adore a real profusion of metaphors. I also love to read novels, finding in their length, their complexity, their leisurely unfolding a comfort, a solace, a haven into which I have sailed ever since I learned how to read. Well, I didn?t read novels at four years old, but you get the idea.

I admire a great short story, but I also find them requiring a bit too much of my attention. And I find them, well, short. Just when I was really sliding into the rhythm of it, it?s done.

So when I was faced with writing a dissertation in fiction at UH I knew I could put together a short story collection?or I could launch out on the journey of the novel. I was never going to be in school again, never be able to write under someone?s direction like that again?when would I ever be able to write a novel, if not then.

So I took a short story? The Algebra of Snow?and turned it into a novel.

New hormone for lowering blood sugar

ScienceDaily (Apr. 3, 2012) ? New evidence points to a hormone that leaves muscles gobbling up sugar as if they can't get enough. That factor, which can be coaxed out of fat stem cells, could lead to a new treatment to lower blood sugar and improve metabolism, according to a report in the April issue of Cell Metabolism, a Cell Press publication.

This new fat-derived hormone would appear to be a useful alternative or add-on to insulin; it can do essentially the same job, sending glucose out of the bloodstream and into muscle.

"It's like you've opened the door and now the glucose can come in," said Jonathan Graff of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

Graff's team manipulated a key developmental pathway in the fat stem cells of mice to find that the animals showed remarkably low blood sugar levels. The animals' muscles were taking up glucose at two to four times the usual rate thanks to an abundance of glucose transporters at their surfaces. That discovery was all the more striking because the animals also lacked fat stores, a condition known as lipodystrophy that normally results in just the opposite: high blood sugar and diabetes.

The mice could respond normally to insulin, but insulin surprisingly had nothing to do with the muscles' unusual appetite for sugar. The source for the change wasn't anything inherently different in the muscle itself either; it was something about those manipulated fat stem cells.

Further experiments revealed that the mouse muscles continued to take up extra sugar when they were isolated in the lab and exposed to blood serum. "It showed these effects were likely secondary to blood-borne signals sent by the manipulated fat cell progenitors," Graff says.

That signal can be generated only by fat stem cells, not mature fat cells. When the researchers made the same developmental manipulation in adult fat cells, they saw no such effect on blood sugar or muscle.

The findings highlight a new fat to muscle hormonal cue that would seem to have real therapeutic promise.

"If we can purify this factor and give it to people, there is potential for its use to lower and help control blood sugar," Graff says. Alternatively, there might be a way to encourage fat stem cells in the body to produce more of the anti-diabetic factor themselves.

Romney halfway to clinching GOP nomination

(AP) ? Mitt Romney is halfway to clinching the Republican nomination for president.

The former Massachusetts governor inched up to 572 delegates on Monday ? exactly half the 1,144 needed ? after the Tennessee Republican Party finalized delegate totals from its March 6 primary. Results in several congressional districts were too close to call on election night, leaving three delegates unallocated.

Romney got all three delegates. He also picked up an endorsement from a New Hampshire delegate who had been awarded to former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman. Huntsman dropped out of the race in January and endorsed Romney.

Texas Rep. Ron Paul, meanwhile, won a Minnesota delegate over the weekend that had been allocated to former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum. Santorum won two delegates and Paul won one at Minnesota's 7th Congressional District convention.

Santorum had been projected to win all three delegates, based on the results of local caucuses in February.

Romney and Santorum have been sparring over the delegate count for weeks. Romney's campaign says there is no way for Santorum to reach the number of delegates needed to clinch the nomination, portraying the race as all but over. Santorum's campaign says Romney's numbers are inflated, raising the prospect of a contested convention in August.

According to the Associated Press tally, Romney has more than twice as many delegates as Santorum. Santorum has 272 delegates, followed by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich with 135 and Texas Rep. Ron Paul with 51.

Romney has won 54 percent of the primary and caucus delegates so far, putting him on pace to clinch the nomination in June. Romney could substantially add to his lead Tuesday, when 95 delegates will be at stake in three primaries, in Wisconsin, Maryland and the District of Columbia.

Tuesday's contests mark the midway point in the race for delegates.

A total of 2,286 delegates are slated to attend the party's national convention in Tampa, Fla. ? 2,169 will be selected through primaries, caucuses and state conventions, while 117 are members of the Republican National Committee, free to support any candidate they choose.

Santorum, who has won 27 percent of the primary and caucus delegates so far, would need 74 percent of the remaining delegates to clinch the nomination before the national convention. Gingrich would need 86 percent and Paul would have to win nearly all of them, which won't happen because most states award delegates proportionally.
