Windows Phone 8 may land October 29th, just days after its desktop brother

Windows Phone 8 may land October 29th

Word on the street is that Windows Phone 8 will get its official launch on October 29th. When asked for confirmation, Microsoft issued a pretty standard "no comment," which leads us to believe there might actually be something to this rumor. With Windows 8 slated to land on October 26th, we wouldn't be surprised to see its portable counterpart hit the market just a few days later, as ZDNet's Mary Jo Foley is suggesting. October is already expected to be a rather hectic month for Microsoft, with launch of countless Windows 8 tablets scheduled. Putting WP8 out alongside its first batch of handsets (hello ATIV S!) would only make sense, really. We can think of a reason or two that Microsoft might want to utterly dominate a few news cycles.

Crook who stole 3,500 Pillow Pets avoids jail

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (AP) ? A Southern California man who stole 3,500 Pillow Pets from an Oceanside warehouse has avoided jail.

The North County Times reports Danny Ray Wright, of Carlsbad, was sentenced Tuesday to 15 days of community service and three years of probation. He pleaded guilty to grand theft and burglary.

Prosecutors say Wright stole $84,000 worth of the popular animal-shaped toys and sold about $11,000 worth on eBay.

The Pillow Pets maker, CJ Products, says Wright was an independent contractor and was allowed to sell some pillows but never paid the company. Beginning in January, he began pilfering Pillow Pets by sneaking them out of the warehouse.

In today?s Meet the the Author podcast, Mike Woodring sits down with Dr. Joe Hummel to discuss his course Async and Parallel Programming: ?Application Design. ?In the interview Joe gives us a brief insight into his favorite pastime, and then discusses how this course extends on the information from his previous course Introduction to Async and Parallel Programming in .NET 4. ?He then describes the difference between Async and Parallel programming as well as some of the inherent dangers in this model of coding.

[Mike] Hello. This is Mike Woodring with another Pluralsight author interview. Today we?re talking with Dr. Joe Hummel about his course Async and Parallel Programming Application Design. Joe focuses on high performance computing and .NET languages. He is well versed in Microsoft?s High Performance Computing and Parallel Programming Initiatives, Web and desktop application technologies and a variety of programming languages including C++, C#, F# and VB. Dr. Hummel, or Dr. Joe as we like to call him, is a tenured professor of computer science and has numerous research publications in the fields of compiler optimization and computer science education. He has also coauthored two books on Windows Development and has taught online and in corporate training centers and in company?s around the world. Hello, Joe, it?s good to have you with us today.

[Dr. Joe] Hey Mike, it?s great to be here. Thank you.

[Mike] Now I know you really like to sail so before we dive into the technical discussion I want to take a moment to live vicariously through you, if that?s okay. Please tell us about your most recent sailing trip, or should I say voyage?

[Dr. Joe] Thanks, Mike. Yeah, that?s a good way to start. Yeah, I was very fortunate, about a few weeks ago, a month ago, I helped a friend sail from New York City to Portugal, which is about 2,000 miles, actually to the Azores Island chain off Portugal. At sea for about two weeks, no email, just hanging out with my friends and eating good food. It was a great trip. The only issue was the first few days of seasickness as I got used to the Atlantic Ocean. So that was a little rough to start but after that it was fantastic, thanks.

[Mike] Oh well living in a land locked state as I do, that sounds fantastic. Thanks for sharing that with us. Okay so your new course is entitled Async and Parallel Programming Application Design. Can you summarize the goals of the course?

[Dr. Joe] You know it?s important to understand this new course is really part two of a sequence so the first course entitled Introduction to Asynchronous and Parallel Programming in .NET 4, the first course introduces the notion of concurrency, motivates why you might want to run operations concurrently and demonstrates how you can do this using the Task Parallel Library and .NET4. Now this new course builds upon that first course to discuss how to design applications for concurrency, what types of parallelism you?re likely to encounter, patterns for exploiting these types of parallelism, some of the dangers to look out for when designing concurrent software and various solutions to these dangers. I also discussed .NETs execution model in much more detail, which is something that?s very important to understand when you design parallel applications from the ground up. And I think when you?re done viewing both of these courses you?ll have the tools you need to design and build safe, efficient parallel programs.

[Mike] Excellent. Now the course title includes both the words asynchronous and parallel, which implies that there?s a difference between the two. Both imply concurrent execution of some sort so what exactly is the difference?

[Dr. Joe] Yeah thanks, that?s actually a subtle but very important distinction so the difference necessarily isn?t that important but I thought it better to err on the side of sort of completeness and giving people an accurate picture of the field and so I try to be very clear in the courses about these two terms, asynchronous versus parallel. So suppose you had two operations, A and B, that you want to execute concurrently. Now if you execute these operations, A and B, asynchronously this implies that the computer may execute them on a single CPU by doing a little bit of A and then actually switching over and executing a little bit of B and then switching back and doing a little more of A and then switching back and doing a little bit more of B and then back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. Now this happens so fast that it appears they?re executing at the same time. But in reality they?re not. They?re executing on a single CPU and so that?s what we mean by executing asynchronously and they share the CPU. You know 10 or more years ago this is how basically all the computers executed things, the operating system would basically just rapidly switch between all the running programs. And the common example of this today are UI based applications where you know the user clicks a button and then when they do that it initiates some long running operation like a search of the web or a simulation for financials. And we don?t want the UI to lock up while we wait for that operation to complete so we designed the application so that the UI operation runs asynchronously with the background operation so the user can continue to interact or watch progress while the operation runs in the background. As you?ll probably guess the term parallel is used to convey the fact that two operations run simultaneously, physically at the same time. Now to do this you need a multi-core hardware or physically multiple CPU?s and the machine and that?s, as we all know, pretty common today, almost all machines and even our phones and tablets are multi-core and that?s what enables true parallel programming. And you see this today with people playing music while they?re reading email while they?re downloading, you know, the next beta Visual Studio and so on and so forth.

[Mike] Right, right, very good. Okay so your course actually opens with a module on the dangers of concurrency. What do you mean by that?

[Dr. Joe] Yes, I wanted to be realistic in that it?s not all a happy, pretty picture. You know if you get into this style of application development and programming, you have to be very aware that there?s some risk to doing this and be focused on doing it safely and correctly. And one of the things that?s really interesting I think about computer science right now is that the tools we use, the compilers and the hardware we run on, they?re very much still in the sequential mindset so for example the C++ compilers and the C# compilers, they still optimize our programs but they make those decisions based on a sequential program. They don?t view the program as doing things in parallel but doing it sort of one thing after another sequentially. And these decisions now, if you start writing parallel programs, the compiler then starts optimizing and potentially can slow down or worse even break your program so that it?s now incorrect. So there?s sort of this tension between we?re trying to write parallel programs but some of the tools and hardware are still living in the old world and what they?re doing doesn?t you know sort of blend well with what we?re trying to do in parallel. So for example there?s this keyword in C++ and C# called volatile and this was like sort of a quick hack but a very ineffective solution to tell the compiler, hey, we?re doing something in parallel so don?t break my program when you optimize it. And the volatile keyword just never did work very well so there is some sort of catch up that has to happen with our tools to catch up with where we are in the field which is trying to write effective parallel programs. And the hardware has the same thing, hardware, I don?t know if people know that the chips, the CPU?s, we order our instructions, they?re doing all sorts of things underneath to make the programs run faster. But again from a sequential perspective, and when you do things in parallel across multiple cores or CPU?s, what the hardware is doing and what we?re doing in our programs, there?s again this tension and you have to understand that tension in order to do it safely and correctly. And so that?s one of the things that?s really important I think about using libraries like the Task Parallel Libary is that the people who build these libraries understand the tension between the parallel world and the sequential world and they hide these subtleties from us so that we can work at a high level and work at that level safely. And not have to know all this really nitty, gritty stuff about compilers and hardware execution to do it correctly.

[Mike] Excellent. So your course then it concludes with a module on design patterns for parallel programming, which I was very excited to see personally. Tell us a little bit more about the kind of guidance you offer in that module.

[Dr. Joe] Yeah, thanks, Mike, I like how the course ends, the second course ends with a discussion of patterns. Patterns, as we all know, are a great way to provide sort of high level guidance as folks design applications or pieces of their application and the module hits upon a number of important patterns, for example producer consumer is a good one. This is a pattern that you should use or at least consider when you have parallel operations operating at different speeds. And a good example is a web server where you have requests coming in and responses going out but the requests could be coming in fast or slow, the responses could be quick or very time consuming and so that you know how do you deal with those different speeds? And so the producer consumer is a great way to approach that style of problem. Another very important pattern that probably everyone has heard of is MapReduce, which is the technology behind search engines like Bing and Google. This is a great pattern to use with embarrassingly parallel data operations. And so the course we?ll get into what is embarrassing parallel? What is data parallelism? And so how would I know when to use things like MapReduce? And then we get into other patterns like the APM, asynchronous programming model pattern which is a good one for responsive IO or responsive user interfaces. And we talk about parallel Linq or P-Linq and then others as well so I like how the course ends. Thanks, I?m glad you approved.

[Mike] Yeah, well it was awesome. So well you know thank you very much, Joe, for taking the time to speak with us today. I really appreciate it.

[Dr. Joe] Great, thank you, Mike. It was a pleasure to be here and I hope listeners out there get a chance to hear the course and hope they learn something from it. Thank you.

[Mike] Again this is Dr. Joe Hummel?s new course, Async and Parallel Programming Application Design. Thanks again, Joe.

    [Dr. Joe] Thanks, Mike.

Create an online Business enterprise Website

Hundreds of people everyday are wanting to generate a web-based Web Based Company. You are able to recognize the demand for on-line enterprise by looking at the searches created on the search engines. They?re phrases like make a web based company website web, business on the web compact net, enterprise online page, company, on the web site web, internet hosting for on the net business and on the internet web site business enterprise opportunity just to mention some.

Not too long ago I wrote a number of articles, one particular about particular landing pages, another about matching keywords to certain landing pages and the last one was on keyword pricing. This time I?m going to cover several quick methods to monitor your campaigns in order that you guarantee you will be accomplishing what you set out to accomplish. Otherwise you will not bear the fruits of one?s efforts.

As I talked about in my other articles you must make sure that you?ve a different landing page on your web-site for each and every region of you small business. By way of example on my site I?ve a landing page for Function At Property, Prime ten small business, Home Based Company, Moms Jobs, Affiliates, Data Entry, On line Paid Surveys along with a link to my real time newsletter.

When utilizing a single with the tools offered to us known as (PPC) Paid Per Click Marketing, whereby we pay a search engine pennies to show our ad when someone varieties in specific keyword. As I talked about in my other report you have to break up your keywords and phrases in such a manner as to possess all your keywords and phrases on a given subject sent to the specific landing page. As an example you?ll want to have all Work At Property keywords visit your landing page, which is mainly about Operate At Residence tips. Like wise have you keywords and phrases on Home Based Small business go to the landing page that highlights Dwelling Based Business Opportunities.

In addition you don?t would like to bidding against your self so you want to make sure that you don?t mix and match your key phrases. You can would like to advertise only the key phrases that match a particular landing page when applying (PPC) Paid Per Click Advertising. Don?t have Perform At Residence keywords mixed in with On line Paid Surveys sending people today to a number of landing Pages.

You will would like to use a number of variation of a given keyword. Contemplate the conversation going on in your customer?s head. What would you variety in when you were looking for the identical point What would others variety Don?t just set you campaigns to run on a maximum cost per click. Do some research to determine how much a particular keyword is getting searched for. This will assist you to set your keyword pricing.

So that you could possibly make sure that your efforts are operating you are able to monitor your campaigns on every search engine. Each and every search engine ought to possess a reports page, whereby you are able to appear up keywords for the day and it will show you what landing page your potential buyer was sent to. If they clicked on the keyword Dwelling Based Company and they were sent for your Function At Residence page as opposed to your house Based Small business page then you know modifications are required. This may show that you simply have to have home based small business set as a keyword in you function at property campaign additionally to or as opposed to your property Base Business enterprise campaign. You might either need to delete it and add it to your House Based Company Campaign or move it there depending on the search engine.

Another tool you could use is to add a cost-free counter to your page. There are several on-line that track urls so that not just can you see the ip address, time, landing page, length of time on your internet site, but numerous instances it?ll show you the keyword searched for also. It will enable you to see what wants to me modified on an ongoing basis.

Every subtle modify inside your web site landing page, key phrases, keyword bidding, no matter how minuscule, has an impact on your consumer. I generally recommend alter, monitor, analyze, modify and hold continuing the procedure. Evaluate the new change towards the old 1 so that you can see which landing page converts finest.

Please feel absolutely free to read much more of this short article by going to my link inside the resource box below. I always take pleasure in receiving emails pertaining to my articles or my web page. Your feedback is important to me.

Mars Rover Tracks Akin to Neil Armstrong's Moon Bootprints, Scientist Says

NASA's newest Mars rover Curiosity is making tracks on the Red Planet that call to mind the groundbreaking footprints left on the moon by Neil Armstrong more than 40 years ago, a rover scientist said today (Aug. 27).

Neil Armstong, who became the first person to walk on the lunar surface on July 20, 1969, died Saturday (Aug. 25) at the age of 82. He and his Apollo 11 crewmate, Buzz Aldrin, left the first human imprints on the moon in the form of bootprints indented into the lunar dust everywhere they walked (or hopped, since the moon has one-sixth Earth's gravity).

Now, one of NASA's latest endeavors, the Mars Science Laboratory rover Curiosity, is making a similar impression on another planetary body. The rover landed on Mars Aug. 5 (PDT) and made its first test drive on Aug. 22.

"An iconic image of the mission" shows "four scour marks with wheel tracks," Curiosity chief scientist John Grotzinger of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., said today during a news briefing. He compared that photo to images of the footprints left by Armstrong on the moon. "I think instead of a human, it's a robot pretty much doing the same thing."

Grotzinger was asked by a journalist whether the Curiosity mission bore any resemblance to the Apollo 11 journey taken by Armstrong, along with Aldrin and the mission's Command Module pilot Michael Collins.

"The analogy is a terrific one," Grotzinger replied.

Curiosity, a car-size rover that cost $2.5 billion to build and operate, is beginning a two-year mission to explore Mars' Gale Crater for hints that the Red Planet may have ever been habitable to microbial life. The project is NASA's most audacious robotic mission to another world ? just as ambitious, in some ways ? as the Apollo flight that put Armstrong on the moon.

Midlife fitness staves off chronic disease at end of life

ScienceDaily (Aug. 27, 2012) ? Being physically fit during your 30s, 40s, and 50s not only helps extend lifespan, but it also increases the chances of aging healthily, free from chronic illness, investigators at UT Southwestern Medical Center and The Cooper Institute have found.

For decades, research has shown that higher cardiorespiratory fitness levels lessen the risk of death, but it previously had been unknown just how much fitness might affect the burden of chronic disease in the most senior years -- a concept known as morbidity compression.

"We've determined that being fit is not just delaying the inevitable, but it is actually lowering the onset of chronic disease in the final years of life," said Dr. Jarett Berry, assistant professor of internal medicine and senior author of the study available online in the Archives of Internal Medicine.

Researchers examined the patient data of 18,670 participants in the Cooper Center Longitudinal Study, research that contains more than 250,000 medical records maintained over a 40-year span. These data were linked with the patients' Medicare claims filed later in life from ages 70 to 85. Analyses during the latest study showed that when patients increased fitness levels by 20 percent in their midlife years, they decreased their chances of developing chronic diseases -- congestive heart failure, Alzheimer's disease, and colon cancer -- decades later by 20 percent.

"What sets this study apart is that it focuses on the relationship between midlife fitness and quality of life in later years. Fitter individuals aged well with fewer chronic illnesses to impact their quality of life," said Dr. Benjamin Willis of The Cooper Institute, first author on the study.

This positive effect continued until the end of life, with more-fit individuals living their final five years of life with fewer chronic diseases. The effects were the same in both men and women.

These data suggest that aerobic activities such as walking, jogging, or running translates not only into more years of life but also into higher quality years, compressing the burden of chronic illness into a shorter amount of time at the end of life, Dr. Berry said.

According to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), adults should get at least 2 ? hours of moderate to intense aerobic activity each week to ensure major heart and overall health benefits.

UT Southwestern has a partnership with The Cooper Institute, the preventive medicine research and educational nonprofit located at the Cooper Aerobics Center, to develop a joint scientific medical research program aimed at improving health and preventing a wide range of chronic diseases. One of the world's most extensive databases, the Cooper Center Longitudinal Study includes detailed information from clinic visits that has been collected since Dr. Kenneth Cooper founded the institute and clinic in 1970.

Other UT Southwestern researchers involved in the study include Dr. David Leonard, assistant professor of clinical sciences, and Ang Gao, a biostatistical consultant in internal medicine.

The study was funded with support from the NHLBI and the American Heart Association.

Weighing your options? Thinking of less supportive relationships ...

(Phys.org)?People who view their relationships as secure have less need to consider many options when making choices about purchases, a new University of Michigan study shows.

In general, people like having options. However, having too many options can lead to negative decision consequences, such as delaying making a choice or deciding not to choose, U-M researchers say.

"Although having more choice appears good in theory, more choice may lead to lower decision quality and less satisfaction with the chosen option," said Oscar Ybarra, U-M professor of psychology and the study's lead author.

Ybarra and colleagues examined how relationships can influence a person's decisions, especially as it relates to the costs associated with choices that offer few or many options.

Through two experiments, they found that supportive relationships increased feelings of security and calmness, which lessen the appeal of wanting more options when choosing.

On the other hand, non-supportive relationships provided little or no security, leading people to separate themselves from others. This, Ybarra said, elevated the person's need to be flexible when making decisions and thus the appeal of options when choosing.

The first experiment separated 133 participants in groups: those who were instructed to think about supportive relationships, another to consider non-supportive relationships, and another (control) to think about an object the person owns but isn't important.

Participants then were presented with four scenarios in which they would buy a new cell phone: the company decides on the phone for the consumer; for a $5 fee, the person can select from three of nine available models; for a $10 fee, six of nine available models could be considered; and for $15, all nine models would be available to choose from.

Participants in the non-supportive and control groups?about 60 percent of the sample?wanted more choice in making decisions even if they had to pay the higher price. Fewer participants in the supportive group chose the $15 option (48 percent) when compared with the other groups.

In the second experiment, 50 adults assessed their choices for hiking boots and were placed in groups where they were either reminded of a supportive or non-supportive relationship. In the decision task, they could choose to visit a store that carried five styles of boots, and the store was 11 minutes away; another store had nine styles but was 19 minutes away; a third had 14 styles and was 29 minutes; and a fourth store carried 20 styles of boots but was 41 minutes away.

Participants also indicated the importance of the choice, how confident they were in finding the best pair of boots, and their knowledge and familiarity with hiking boots.

Most participants in the supportive relationship condition chose the stores with the fewer boot styles and time commitment, 43 percent and 47 percent, respectively. Only 10 percent selected the stores that had more choices and involved more time commitment.

For the non-supportive group, 35 percent of participants opted for the stores with more choices and time commitment.

Researchers said the results also indicated that people reminded of supportive relationships described themselves as being calm and secure, feelings that were associated with the decrease in the appeal of choice.

The craft of Stone Brewing Co. [Book Review] | Queen City Drinks

Part of the Stone media pack I received was the book? The Craft of Stone Brewing Co.: Liquid Lore, ?Epic?Recipes, and unbiased arrogance.?The book is broken down into sections and I?ll follow that breakdown for my review.

    The Nature of Beer

    • Excellent break down of what beer is. They go into detail about the core ingredients of beer and what difference they make. Of interest to home brewers and beer nerds is a breakdown of many styles of hops with name, alpha acid level, and flavor profile. They do the same thing with malt and even various chemicals in water! This is a resource I?ll hold onto for a while and I?ll use it as a basis for an eventual blog post(s) on this subject.

    Beer Through The Ages

    • Re-read this section because it was that good. OK, so I wrote that note to myself while doing an initial draft of this post. Then I decided to keep it there because it?s true and everyone should do it. This is by far my favorite section of this book and is full of great info. There is a 4,000 year old recipe for beer which includes brewing instructions called ?the Hymn to Ninkasi? from what is now Iraq, no word if anyone has recreated it recently (get on that Dogfish Head!). That kinda fact just blows my mind. From there they skip ahead a few thousand years and mainly focus on the results of ending prohibition. That is to say the crushing of small brewers and the following slow rise of craft beer ending in the world we have today.

    A Story Called Stone

    • This section is really for hard core Stone fans. It goes through the history, founding, problems, and fortune and fame of the company. There isn?t a lot of great info for people looking to start small breweries or small breweries looking to grow. It?s still a fun story and an interesting ride. Plus like the book as a whole it?s told in a very engaging way.

The Beers of Stone Brewing Co.

    • This is a huge section with detailed info and stories on all of the Stone beers. At least all of them as of 2011, which is a lot! This includes all the?anniversary?and collaboration beers as well as the regular round up. Again it?s really for Stone super fans, but it?s also an excellent resource for anyone interested in Stone beers? like a blogger who is in the midst of writing posts about the beers.

    Dr. Bill?s Beer How-Tos

    • This is a rather quick section that talks about serving, cellaring, and pairing beer. For the serving section it focuses on choosing the correct glass and getting a good pour. Then a very cursory discussion on enjoying and tasting. The cellaring section just goes through what kind of styles are best to age and good places to store the beer. Pairing is just what you think, talks about why beer works great with food and what foods work with what beers. The how-to section is overall alright but I?d prefer the tasting section to be a bit more in depth. Also in aging it?d be nice if they said age X style for Y years to achieve optimal results. I realize this is very difficult for anyone to say, but still they could give it a shot.

Recipes from the Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens

    • As I?ve stated many times I?m no foodie and I?m a horrible cook. As such this section was lost on me. There are about 15 or 20 recipes for food served at Stone?s brewpub. They look tasty but are pretty complex, at least from my perspective.

    Home brew Recipes

    • The first portion here is a nice overview of the entire home brew process. I wouldn?t use this as my only guide for my first brew but it gives you a decent idea of what you?re looking at and could be a good starting place. Following that is beer recipes for a somewhat odd collection of Stone beers. Pale ale, smoked porter, and levitation make sense then there are a scattering of?anniversary?s?and collaborations. But no arrogant bastard which I think may?disappoint?many people. Though as most home brewers already know that?s just a Google search away.

In the end this is a good general beer book and a fantastic book about Stone. If you know any Stone fanatics this would make a great present for them. If you?ve been reading my reviews you?ve seen that I?m no Stone super fan so the Stone-centric portions of this book only held mild interest for me. Despite that I thoroughly enjoyed the general info like the nature and history of beer. Regardless of all that it?s not a huge book so you can pop through it pretty quick unless you want to memorize all the recipes by heart or something.

Vital Elements For Asbestos Attorney ? Some Thoughts

Article by Geraldine G. G. Laird ? Asbestos disease, mesothelioma cancers, lung cancers and asbestosis are classified as the diseases induced as a result of exposure to asbestos. It offers observed widespread use within industries and constructing elements for example fireproofing, roofing shingles, electric insulation, furnace, hot pipe covering, and friction products. Science & Society Accepting Papers on ... - Anarchist news dot org

    From Interoccupy

Science & Society is planning a special issue on the broad theme of anarchism, as appearing in both past and present-day political movements. While contributors will of course shape the content and perspectives of the issue as it develops, we especially encourage contributions within the following subject areas:

    1. The nature of anarchist theory and practice, from the standpoint of historical materialism. Anarchism as a laboratory for the study of the material roots of ideology. Does the existing body of anarchist writing contribute to Marxist understandings of the state? Of the nature of ruling-class hegemony? Of the balance between spontaneity and organization in the struggles of working and oppressed classes and strata? Of transformations in capitalism related to globalization, neoliberalism, financialization, cognitive commodities, creative labor, etc.?

    1. The classical roots of anarchist thought in the works of Bakunin, Kropotkin, Emma Goldman, and others, especially in relation to the position of Marx and Engels in the International Working Men?s Association and the individual-country working-class movements of the 19th century.

    2. The specific features of present-day anarchist thought. Survey of books, journals, websites, blogs. The role of new information technologies in contemporary social and political debate.

    3. Anarchism in today?s new social movements: the anti- and counter-globalization protests; the uprising against the WTO, Seattle, 1999; the World Social Forum and its regional and national counterparts; and the present-day Occupy movement, in the United States and internationally. What is the nature of anarchism?s influence, and how has it evolved? How is anarchism conceptualized in today?s Occupy movement, and how do these conceptions differ from classical anarchism?

    4. Anarchism and ?black shirt? practices on the left, old and new, from the 19th century to the Spanish Civil War, to the 1960s peace movements and up to the present. How central is anarchist theory to these practices? Can it be separated from them?

    5. The relation between anarchism and libertarianism. Does anarchist thought transcend the distinction between political right and left? Does anarchism have a distinctive post-capitalist vision?

reKiosk Digitally Recreates The Independent Bookstore and Record Store Experience

reKioskWhile ebooks and digital music are becoming the dominant way of consuming books and songs, only a few digital retailers have become important players in this space. reKiosk is trying to bring to the web the buying experience that was lost along the way thanks to a service that promotes independent artist and provides advice in the style of independent booksellers and record store owners. Aziz Isham, founder and CEO of reKiosk, has already worked in digital publishing. But he found out that it was nearly impossible to promote independent artists on big platforms while retaining a profit. "With reKiosk, we are the only site built from the ground-up to encourage the sale and promotion of independent digital media," he said.

Fitness Focus | Cleanse And Detox for The Purpose of Weight Loss

    posted by Fitness Focus ?? | ? August 24, 2012 00:18

Questions from around the gym: Do Cleanses and Detoxes Work?

This is a hot topic?at all?gyms; as discussed in the previous cleanse and detox blog entry; cleansing which is interchangeable with?fasting,?is certainly not a smart choice in terms of promoting good health. Fasting is?also far from?a effective?method for?weight loss, yet it still?one of the oldest methods for fast weight loss. It doesn't involve a whole lot of understanding or?any?drastic changes in your lifestyle.? it just requires starving yourself,?then it won't be long until you start to see the?numbers on the scale starting to drop.??For people?desperate for answers, it doesn't help?being bombarded by all the?New Age products on the market that claim to help them get the most out of their weight loss fast.? Fasting is an easy and non-invasive method of losing weight and is hyped up by some self-appointed experts as the best method to deal with weight loss and obesity, when used in combination with their products and services.? When you do a detox, you do lose some weight temporarily, but most of the immediate?weight loss that occurs?is just a?result of the?lack of fluid retention that naturally happens when a person does not eat. So,?the weight that is lost is short lived is short-lived at best, and it?inevitably?be regained?after a couple?days?of returning to your normal eating habits.? Previous in the blog you read about detoxes and cleanses and their unrealistic role of?detoxifying your body? The main?reason people incorporate a detox into their lifestyle is for the purpose of weight loss,

Fasting & Weight Loss: ?Understanding the Mechanisms Of Short Term FastsThis section?will explain a bit more of what fasting really does to our bodies and?what impacts?it?has on leading a healthy lifestyle.? One?important aspect?of understanding what happens during a cleanse is to have a clear picture of exactly what is happening in your?body when you decide to stop or restrict your?nutritional intake. Sugars that are broken down and stored in your body?the form of glucose is?the main source of fuel for your body and is?necessary not only for our muscles to work but also for our brain to be efficient.? When your food intake is limited,?the low blood sugar levels in your body trigger an increase in the two hormones glucagon (which is a for of glucose - sugar found in your liver and muscles)?and epinephrine. One function of these?hormones is the stimulation of the conversion of glycogen into a useable fuel by means of a process called glycogenolysis. The human liver and muscles have enough glycogen to last for two to three days; this is one?reason that?brief periods of fasting, say for a medical procedure, are usually harmless for healthy individuals.

Fasting and Weight Loss: ?The Effects of Long Term Fasting

When you decide to limit or completely remove most foods from your diet as most cleanses require, there will be a brief period when your body will start to use your stored body fat as a fuel source.?During this period, the change in body weight will not be noticeable by any means.? Too long of a period without proper nutrient intake, such as protein, carbohydrates?and to a lesser extent fats, your body will go into a catabolic phase which basically means you will actually start to loose muscle mass.? So, losing muscle mass might take the numbers on the scale in the direction you want, but that doesn't mean that it was kind of weight you wanted to lose.?Muscle is what gives a person the hard or in shape look once they achieve desired body fat levels.?A long period without food?has another negative and

undesired effect on the body.? When?your body is deprived of calories for fuel it goes into a survival mode, so when the calories are reintroduce when you eat again your body will use what is immediately needed and store the rest as,you guess it, bodyfat.? So a cleanse that last for 30 days, 10 days, or even 3 days will ultimately?lead you?back to where you were a the beginning.

So you see, a cleanse as a method of losing unwanted body fat is really not the answer.? If anything it will make you more tired and less capable of living your daily life, including work and exercise.? As stated in the previous article, depriving yourself of nutrients is not doing your body any favors.? There is no substitute for proper, healthy eating.
