The 7th Annual Crescent City Blues and BBQ Festival is coming this October 12 ? 14! A free festival in downtown?s famous Lafayette Square, the CC B&B Festival is the city?s preeminent Blues and Soul festival and, I believe, longest running BBQ festival. Produced by the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation, the people that bring us Jazz Fest every year, you can bet that the music is going to be great. With Clarence ?Mr. Strokin?? Carter closing out the festival, you know it will. The rest of the musical line up looks to be equally enticing, with three time Grammy Award winner Keb Mo, the Bo-Keys featuring Otis Clay, Blues Song of the Year Award winner Johnny Sansone, Grammy Award winning blues guitarist Chris Thomas King and many more acts rounding out the lineup. But what about the food?
New Orleans is, without a doubt, a world renowned culinary hot spot. But as I was growing up, there were some kinds of food that New Orleans just couldn?t ?do.? Considering New Orleans? geographical location nestled deep in the South, one of the most conspicuous absences in the NOLA food scene was barbeque. Things were so desperate that every so often my parents would have racks of ribs shipped in from some of Memphis? great BBQ joints (Thanks FedEx for having a hub in Memphis!). Thankfully, those days are gone. Thanks in no small part to a number of festivals spotlighting this delicious food, great BBQ can be had all over town. Heavy hitters return this year like?Fat Hen Grill & Grocery, The Joint, Walker?s?Love at First Bite?and?Smokin? Buddha BBQieux?to satisfy your BBQ needs, while a host of other vendors, such as Rouse?s,?Lucy?s Retired Surfers Bar, Vaucresson?s Sausage Co. and more will cover any other cravings you have!

As is the case with Jazz Fest, you know the CC B&B Festival can?t stop with just live music and food. You?ll have the opportunity to meet the musicians and get autographs in the Louisiana Music Factory merchandise tent after all performances. Want to know more about your favorite artist? They?ll be conducting live interviews across the street in Gallier Hall at the Oral History Stage. There is also going to be a huge arts market featuring local and regional artists and their unique, hand crafted creations. And, while the Saints are on their bye week, for you college football fans, Abita beer has once again teamed up with the CC B&B Festival to ensure you can catch great live music and not miss a play. The Abita Sports Bar will have plenty of Abita on tap with as many big screens showing all the games all weekend long.
