Building A Personal Brand: What Does Your Online Footprint Say ...

When it comes to branding yourself online, who are you to your market?

If someone were to google your name right now, what would come up?

If you?ve never put much thought into branding yourself, the sooner you start the better?

Why?

Well, that?s what we?re going to briefly cover now.

In fact, most of this week?s content will be focusing on specific areas of building your personal brand.

Back on topic, here?s the importance of personal branding?

#1 ? What IS personal branding?

In short, your brand is what makes you unique, what makes you stand out from the crowd of other marketers within your niche.

No secret there?

But something you might not have considered before, is how ?who? you are online can affect your future. I?m talking job offers, landing clients if you decide to freelance or do consulting, and a handful of other possible situations.

With that in mind, try to make sure your personal brand doesn?t prevent you from taking advantage of opportunities in the future.

Even something as simple as forum profiles are something you should be mindful of, especially if you use your real name (not uncommon on business and marketing forums, and possibly others).

#2 ? What about building your branding WHILE you have a day job?

If you?re still working for a company, it?s not the end of the world.

Your company may not even mind you moonlighting online, especially if it?s not viewed as competition.

But if you?re not sure, you could always use a pen name to create content under?or just not mention your name on a blog right away.

Keep in mind, though, that once you use a pen name, it may be hard to switch to your real name down the road if you?ve built a significant reputation and the pen name is what others use to find you.

Perhaps in some of the future content, we?ll look at some other ideas to get around this.

#3 ? A simple, free service you can use to measure part of your online reputation?

Klout is a great site that allows you to link your social media profiles to it, and in turn you receive a score that estimates how much influence (?klout?) you have online.

In fact, Klout has gained enough of a name for itself so far that major companies hand out ?perks? (freebies) to users that have a high klout score.

Some say it may even be one type of metric certain employers look at, in the future.

I?d say positions like content manager, social media manager/consulting, SEO, etc. would make Klout scores relevant.

So?

With these things in mind, I?m planning to send you some specific info on how to start creating your personal brand, tomorrow.
